Monkey Mia

Holy god we are tired.... Yesterday we made it to Monkey Mia...This place is weird!!! Very beautiful but strange, pretty commercial and the school holiday hoards didn't help!!!!! It took us a good hour to wind down form the drive so we had a few beers at the bar.
The sunset here was by far one of the most beautiful we've ever seen, dolphins swimming around and amazing yachts.
We had some really nice sesame tofu and cous cous for dinner with a few more beers and then decided to hit the hay. This is where the fun began... It was our first attempt at sleeping in the back of our car, Ben had built a special set of drawers in the back of the ute with a false floor for us to sleep on, so we thought we'd try it out...we thought wrong!!! It was pain all night!!! haha!!! NEVER AGAIN!!! We have to come up with some new strategy for sleeping at quick stop overs....all learning experiences!!!

7am this morning we got up to go and experience the dolphin feeding, even though there were so many people it was still awesome.... They are soooo amazing, and come right up close to the shore. Its something I'd wanted to see since I was a wee lil' thang, a must see for kids and animal lovers...

Now onto Quobba Station, Ben is super excited to check this remote place out (thanks to Matts tip) for fishing and surfing, there's a storm brewing at the moment, we are currently in Denham (shark Bay) so we'll see what the weather brings for us tonight!! Might be our first night in the rain!!!

Kalbarri!!!

So, we made it to Kalbarri on Monday after a LONG detour to get to the pinnacles, which was worth it in the sense that we saw hundreds of fossilised trees sticking up outta the ground! YAY!!!

Then it was onto Kalbarri, this place is pretty special, very very pretty with a river mouth that meets the ocean.

We quickly got into a campsite and realised IT'S SCHOOL HOLIDAYS!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! hehe! There where screaming muchkins everywhere! But that was ok, the bad bit was that the camp grounds jack up their prices, $30 per night for an unpowered site is pretty steep!!! But we just sucked it up and forked out the cash.

Moving quickly as the sun went down we scrambled to set up our tent and get some dinner going, we had bought some local prawns that I wanted to use in a pasta sauce and our bottle of Moet to celebrate……. Turns out the Moet was off and the prawns tasted like….hmmm fish? Not good! But we didn't care, we were on holidays and the snuggly tent looked so good!!!

Tuesday morning we headed out to find Ben a fishing spot, the views were breathtaking, sparkly rocks and cascading red cliffs were beautiful, Ben went fishing and I went running, running is a great way to see the land, I went along for about an hour and a half, with the wind in my hair and Beyonce in my ears, I felt so FREE!!!

Ben was very taken back by the amazing surf breaks, Jaques point and Red bluff. He also found an interesting spot on Siphon Road. Unfortunately the swell wasn't in his favour, but luckily this place is only 6 hours away from Perth so we can come back here easily, AND WE WILL!!!

That night we both got fishing gear together and a few beers and headed to Red Bluff to catch some dinner, turns out the man in the bait shop sold us the wrong bait, so we only caught one mean looking fish with sharp creepy teeth!! Because we didn't catch anything else we thought it would be the right thing to do to put him back, I launched him back into the waves and…..he didn't swim….I say he was just in shock and would have ended up fine but I'm only telling myself that to make myself feel better….poor lil' thang!!!

We laughed as we headed back to camp, looks like pesto pasta for dinner instead of those fish cakes I wanted to make….next time…..
